History & Traditional Uses
Mandarin's primary action is as a tonic that aids the digestive process. It stimulates the appetite and the liver, helping to regulate digestion and the breakdown of fat. Calms the intestines and relieves flatulence. It has proved useful for soothing stomach cramps and indigestion.
Mandarin is an introduced species to Australia, being brought over by the First Fleet in 1788. It became available on a commercial scale in the late 1800’s and the production of essential oil began as a bi-product, value adding to the citrus processing industry.
Agriculture, Harvesting & Distilling
The waste material of peel is sent promptly to a processing hub, where it is cold pressed to extract this amazing citrus oil. Cold pressing is carried out by basically squeezing the skin through a series of steel rollers with little spikes to perforate the oil cells in the skin. The oil is then squeezed out of the skin and then de-waxed and filtered.
